Work Begins on Major New Project in Holland Park
Harris Calnan starts on site for a substantial structural transformation in one of West London’s premier addresses, Holland Park.
We’re pleased to announce that we’ve started work on an exciting new project in Holland Park, one of West London’s most sought-after residential addresses. The scheme goes well beyond the below-ground works: we’re replacing the existing roof structure entirely and carrying out significant structural intervention throughout the building. We’ve brought together a highly experienced professional team for the job, reflecting the scale and technical complexity we’ve come to be known for.
As we do on many of our basement developments, we’re focusing the early stages of the programme on the groundwork that underpins everything that follows: waterproofing, temporary support and the careful sequencing we need to build a new structure safely alongside an existing one.
Basement Waterproofing
We’re carrying out waterproofing using the Newton Waterproofing System, a specialist Type C cavity drainage approach widely regarded as one of the most reliable methods for protecting below-ground living space. Getting this stage right is fundamental to the long-term performance of any basement, and it’s an area where our experience on previous basement projects continues to prove invaluable.
Temporary Propping and Structural Sequencing
Alongside the waterproofing package, we’ve installed a comprehensive temporary propping scheme to support the existing structure while we build the new basement and superstructure around it. This is a critical and often unseen stage of any basement project, and it demands close coordination between our site teams and the structural design to keep the existing building safe and stable throughout construction.
Brickwork and Structural Steel
As the project progresses, we’ll move on to the brickwork for the new structure, along with installing structural steelwork and floor joisting to form the building’s new floors. Together, these packages will start to define the shape and scale of the finished building, setting the stage for the fit-out phases to follow.
Working With a Trusted Team
Delivering a project of this complexity relies on close collaboration across the full professional team. We’re working alongside architects and Lead Consultant Flower Michelin, with structural engineering delivered by Duffy Associates and building services engineering provided by Edward Pearce. Quantity surveying and contract administration duties are being led by Stockdale.
